Truck Shop Hand:
JOB DESCRIPTION: Truck Shop Hand
CLASSIFICATION: Nonexempt
GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting mechanics, assist with daily operations including maintaining a clean and safe work environment. This is an entry level position with opportunities to gain hands-on experience and grow within the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist mechanics with service, maintenance, repairs
- Clean and organize the shop floor, tools, and equipment
- Load and unload materials, parts, and equipment
- Perform basic mechanical prep tasks such as greasing, pressure washing, draining fluids, and changing filters
- Deliver tools or parts to job sites or around the yard as needed
- Conduct pre- and post-maintenance cleanup, including disposing of used fluids and materials safely
- Monitor inventory levels of shop supplies and report shortages
- Comply with all safety rules, policies, and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Shop Supervisor
- Other duties as assigned.
- Follow all company, local, state and federal safety standards.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Prior experience in a diesel or heavy equipment shop is a plus but not required. Basic knowledge of hand and power tools. Willingness to learn diesel mechanics and equipment servicing. Must have a valid driver’s license, CDL is a plus but not required. Skills needed include computer skills, time management, good communication skills, prioritization and problem-solving skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS: Must have ability to lift at least 50 pounds, must have the ability to climb ladders and work at heights of at least 30 feet and must have ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Also requires occasional bending, twisting, squatting and crouching. Must be willing to work overtime.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work areas are exposed to all elements of weather, loud noise, dusty conditions, greasy and dirty equipment and tools, uneven ground and electrical hazards. Also, exposure to chemicals and heavy moving machinery.
POSITION TYPE AND HOURS REQUIRED: This is a full-time position. Normal schedule is Monday to Friday. Position may include Saturdays as needed. Overtime is required.
